Awareness-raising activities

We carry out various activities (talks, workshops, meetings…) aimed at raising awareness among the population in general and certain groups in particular about active ageing, the prevention of cognitive deterioration and the reality of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

Talks at educational centres

We continue with the task of raising awareness among young people about the reality of dementia, as well as the importance of healthy lifestyle habits for the prevention of cognitive deterioration.

In 2022 we held 7 talks in high schools or vocational training centres, reaching an audience of more than 200 people. These talks were aimed at students of degrees in the socio-health sector and several years of ESO in the framework of the “1st Intergenerational Health Day” of the IES Valadares de Vigo, in which AFAGA collaborated closely with other intergenerational activities between users of the association and students of the institute.

Talks in socio-community centres

As part of our information and awareness-raising work in the socio-community environment, we gave several talks on the prevention and reality of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, as well as on healthy ageing, in neighbourhood associations, socio-community and municipal centres, and in other entities (in this case, the Doa mental health association and in Cruz Vermella within its programme of care for the elderly). In 2022 we will reach an audience of more than 280 people in total.

Commemoration of World Alzheimer’s Day (21 September)

21 September is one of the most important days in AFAGA’s calendar, as it is World Alzheimer’s Day. On this date we want to remember the great incidence of Alzheimer’s in our society, as well as to raise awareness about the reality of this disease and the needs of people who suffer from it and their carers, through various activities: information tables, talks, walks, etc.

Short story competition

As part of our awareness-raising activities, AFAGA organises the annual short story competition on Alzheimer’s and other dementias “Nun recuncho da memoria”, a competition open to anyone over the age of 16 who is aware of this disease or who finds inspiration in ageing or neurodegenerative diseases.
