Prevention of cognitive decline

Cultiva a Mente

There is a well-established and scientifically supported idea that taking care of oneself both physically and mentally provides well-being and quality of life that can last for years, and that older people can be active agents in the prevention of degenerative diseases.

In addition, maintaining social activities and independence in daily life are goals that are part of older people’s life plans.

Given this, we face the challenge of promoting healthier lifestyles and ensuring access to preventive services for older adults.

To do this, we must develop and adapt spaces, programmes and solutions adapted to their needs and in their environment. In response to health-related demand, more and more public and socio-community places include areas dedicated to physical and mental exercise.

In addition to the proven benefits of cognitive, physical, functional and social stimulation, it is also necessary to address the concerns and worries that arise at this stage of life for older people, as well as to foster greater empowerment in the face of current challenges (digitalisation, ecological commitment, equality…).

The "Cultiva a Mente" workshop is a project that covers the prevention of neurodegenerative deterioration and the promotion of healthy habits on a cognitive, emotional, physical, functional and social level. Participants play a predominantly active role in this therapeutic and educational programme that explores the concerns and needs of each person, providing a useful response for their day-to-day life.

To promote an active and positive ageing process in cognitive, emotional, functional and social areas as a precursor to an adequate maintenance of independent living in the participating older adults.
